U14 Girls Win Concorde Challenge
On a beautiful weekend for soccer, the AFC Lightning ’96 Girls Elite took the Concorde Fire Challenge Cup by storm. Starting out with an 8:00 AM game on Saturday morning, the AFC girls got off to a bit of a slow start but soon found their stride, defeating North Atlanta SA 14 Elite 3-0. The third goal was scored with the last kick of the game.

In their second game of the day, the girls beat Cobb FC East Gold 1-0, putting them in good position for their final round robin game on Sunday morning. This was again an 8:00 AM game. The opponent was Charlotte SA Predator G. Lightning needed only a tie to advance to the final. They controlled a lot of the game and created many chances, but it was not until the stroke of half time that Taylor Lott beat the Charlotte goalkeeper to ball dropping in the penalty area to put the team ahead 1-0. Another gaol by Lott in the second half sealed the deal and set up an appearance in the final.

Playing against Birmingham United SA 96 Elite, AFC got off to an early start, putting BUSA under pressure immediately. This paid off as Amanda Bartholomew scored within the first five minutes of the game. Moments after, Taylor Lott added another goal. This was to be the total scoring for the game as AFC Lightning came away with the 2-0 win.

The AFC girls go straight into their season games from here with Region III Premier League East games over the next two weekends in Jacksonville, Florida. The AFC Lightning club extends congratulations to the girls on their win this weekend and wishes them the greatest of success in their season.
