Mahaffey came to AFC Lightning in 2007 from Henry County Soccer Association, where he was the Assistant Director of Coaching. While at AFC Lightning, Mahaffey was the Director of Training and Player Development and is currently the U13 – U15 Boys Coordinator.

Mahaffey has an extensive playing career in terms of club, high school, college, and as a pro. As a youth player, Mahaffey played for Stone Mountain Storm and Norcross Fury under Ricky Wolff.  While at Stone Mountain, he led his team to a State Championship, Tampa Sun Bowl Championship, Quarter Finalists at the Dallas Cup, and Super Clubs National Champions.

Mahaffey finished off his youth soccer career at AFC Lightning with a State Championship at U19.  In high school, Mahaffey was named 2003 Georgia Soccer Player of the Year.  After high school, Chris moved on to play soccer at Georgia State University where he led his team to a top 25 ranking.

From college, Chris played professionally in Germany at KFC Uerdingen of the 3rd Division.  Mahaffey played last year for the Atlanta Silverbacks professional team in the USL 1st Division.  Mahaffey has also had the opportunity to train with a couple top clubs in their country in FSV Mainz 05 (German Bundesliga), and Kansas City Wizards (MLS).  Mahaffey brings a lot of experience from playing and coaching to the AFC Lightning Staff.

Mahaffey currently holds the USSF “C” License and plans to get his “B” in June 2010.

Mahaffey resides in Henry County, with his wife Katie, who is expecting their first son in February.
